Abstract

Introduction: Food insecurity disproportionately affects women in situations of social vulnerability, making it essential to promote strategies that ensure the human right to adequate food. Objective: To apply Food and Nutrition Education (FNE) strategies focused on promoting food security and empowering women in socially vulnerable situations. Methodology: The project involved practical food education workshops conducted in partnership with students from a technical nutrition course. During the workshops, participants learned how to prepare healthy recipes using affordable ingredients, based on basic food basket items. Additionally, a community garden was implemented as a strategy to promote food sovereignty, encouraging the cultivation of fresh food and strengthening food autonomy. Results: The participants showed a high level of acceptance of the practices taught. The workshops fostered knowledge exchange between the assisted women and the students, strengthening community bonds and support networks. The inclusion of sustainable practices, such as the use of the garden, also contributed to raising awareness about the importance of continuous access to healthy and natural food. Conclusion: The proposed actions achieved the expected objectives, promoting awareness, food autonomy, and strengthening the communities served. For future projects, the expansion of workshops is recommended, including regional foods and the promotion of food entrepreneurship to ensure the sustainability of the actions.
