Abstract

Objective: To identify the challenges faced by nurses in assisting patients with venous ulcers in primary health care. Method: Integrative literature review performed in August 2024, with primary search of the productions in Portuguese, English and/or Spanish, in the Scientific Electronic Library Online, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online and Nursing Database, without time cut. Results: In the primary search, 84 studies were found, 10 of which were included. There was a prevalence of publications carried out in 2022 (n=3;30%), and in countries of the American continent (n=6;60%). We synthesized 13 challenges of the nurse to care for patients with venous ulcers, highlighting the unpreparedness/ lack of theoretical/practical knowledge, absence of clinical protocol to guide professional practice, inadequacy of material/financial resources and absence of professional and/or specialized center in the treatment of wounds.  Final considerations: The results show challenges related to individual issues of the nurse, infrastructure and management of the institution.
