Abstract
Introduction: The year 2024 began with a warning of a major dengue epidemic in Brazil, with more than 1 million cases reported in the first two months. Managers of the SUS (Brazilian National Health System) mobilized for the implementation of strategies on several fronts of action for comprehensive care, both individual and/or collective. Objectives: To describe the experience of the municipality of Itanhaém/SP in confronting the dengue epidemic with the implementation of the Campaign Care Unit (UAC) as a strategy to reorganize the local health system. Methodology: Qualitative study of the experience report type in which the authors describe the process of implementing the UAC and its results in confronting the epidemic. Results: The UAC operated for 47 days and 12.753 appointments were carried out, with an average of 271 appointments per day. During this period, Itanhaém reported 5.965 cases, of which 95 were alarm cases and 3 were serious cases, with no confirmed deaths. Conclusion: The use of the UAC provided a specialized, equipped and fast-acting service for the population, reducing the pressure on Primary Health Care Units and Emergency Care Units, in addition to being a low-cost option.
