Abstract

Introduction: Dengue is a highly prevalent endemic viral disease in Brazil, facilitated by chaotic urbanization and ineffective prevention programs. It is crucial to adopt correct approaches for prevention and treatment, with emphasis on vaccination. Objective: To present an integrative literature review aimed at clarifying the methods of treatment and prevention of dengue, as well as the strategies implemented for controlling the disease. Case Studies and Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted between 02/22/2024 and 03/10/2024, using databases such as Up To Date, SciELO, and BVS. The research included articles in Portuguese and English, with descriptors related to dengue, focusing on the last 10 years. A total of 17 articles, 2 health manuals, and 1 medication leaflet were selected. Results: Vaccination was highlighted as crucial in dengue prevention, complemented by repellents, insecticides, and mosquito control. Hydration treatment reduces morbidity and mortality, and waste management and basic sanitation are essential in combating the disease. Conclusion: Dengue incidence has increased, posing a serious public health issue in Brazil. Hence, it is crucial to clarify prevention and treatment methods against Aedes aegypti, emphasizing the evolution of prevention through vaccination to reduce deaths and hospitalizations.
