Abstract
Introduction: The Nursing Process is a work method that must be used in every context that involves nursing care. Objective: Verify the knowledge of clinical nurses at a university hospital about the stages of the Nursing Process; Identify factors impeding the use of the Nursing Process; Identify the importance attributed by nurses at a university hospital to the Nursing Process. Methods: This is a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, of an exploratory nature, of the field research type, which had as its setting a university hospital, linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC), located in Rio de Janeiro. Ten nurses linked to assistance in clinical hospitalization sectors of a university hospital, linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC), located in Rio de Janeiro, participated. The participants were nurses working in clinical sectors of a university hospital. The data collection technique took place through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was thematic. Results: The following categories emerged: I - Nurses' (lack of) knowledge about the Systematization of Nursing Care (SAE) and the Nursing Process (NP); II - Preventing factors for the applicability of NP in nursing care practice and III - Nurses' perception of the importance of NP. Discussion: Prior knowledge about PE was disorganized and incomplete, reflecting the non-adherence or inadequacy of this process. Concluding remarks: Partial knowledge about SAE and PE is identified, summarizing these concepts to organization and planning and without clarity of the process steps. Added to this, some nurses cite SAE and NP as synonyms.
