Abstract

Introduction: VTE is a common problem resulting from hospitalization, it can be due to clinical or surgical conditions, or also spontaneously in people who are presumed to be healthy. Objective: To analyze the prophylaxis prescribed for VTE in clinical and surgical patients in an emergency and trauma hospital in the Brazilian center-west. Methodology: Quantitative, cross-sectional, analytical study, carried out in the wards from March to April 2023. The Padua score was used in clinical patients and the Caprini score in surgical patients to stratify the risk of developing thromboembolism, followed by the analysis of medication prescriptions entered into the unit's hospital management software. Results: The results collected in this study show that of the 115 patients, 78 (67.8%) were male, 43 (37.4%) aged between 18 and 39 years. Predominance of clinical patients 74 (64.3%), admitted to the orthopedics and traumatology ward unit 51 (44.3%). Of these, 33 (28.7%) performed early ambulation and physiotherapy as mechanical prophylaxis and 52 (45.2%) received LMWH 40mg 24/24h as drug prophylaxis. When prophylaxis was evaluated, 42 (36.5%) of the prophylaxis were inadequate, with 18 (42.9%) being overtreated and 16 (38.1%) not receiving pharmacological prophylaxis. Conclusion: Risk stratification is the best way to adapt prophylaxis in patients at risk for VTE.
