Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the clinical and epidemiological histoplasmosis and CD4 T cell count profile of people living with HIV (PLHIV). Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study, of a quantitative nature, with data collected from January 2017 to December 2021. The research evaluated sex, age group and municipalities of residence, biological material and, in cases of PLHIV, the concentration of CD4 T cells in this population was also evaluated, with data provided by the State Public Health Laboratory of the state of Goiás. Results: The prevalence of histoplasmosis cases was 14.32%, with a higher frequency in the adult age group from 31 to 40 years old (32.14%), male (76.2%) with p <0.0001 statistically significant and the origin of cases was higher in the municipality of Goiânia (39.61%). Histoplasma capsulatum were frequently isolated from blood (61.36%), bone marrow (17.86%), skin fragments (6.82%) and liquor (3.90%). PLHIV cases were predominantly in the study (83.44%), with a significantly low CD4 T cell Count, with 62.34% patients presenting less than 51 cells/mm3 and only 1.62% with more than 300 cells/mm3. Conclusion: The results demonstrate a significant prevalence of histoplasmosis cases in the evaluated period, with PLHIV, who had an extremely low CD4 T cell count, demonstrating a weakened immune system and being more vulnerable to other opportunistic infections. Therefore, timely diagnosis and better disease prognosis are effective ways to promote health.
