Abstract
Introduction: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common complications during pregnancy and has a direct influence on the course and outcome of the pregnancy. Objective: To analyze the scientific literature on factors related to UTI in pregnant women and its complications for maternal and fetal health. Methods: Integrative literature review. The search was carried out in August/September 2023 in the following databases: Nursing Database (BDENF); Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS); National Library of Medicine (PubMed/MEDLINE); Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO); and Web of Science, via the CAPES Journals Portal through access to the Federated Academic Community (CAFe). Results and Discussion: 17 studies were included in the final sample. From the critical and detailed analysis of the articles, the following categories emerged: category A - UTI in pregnant women: related factors, diagnosis, main clinical forms, gestational age of women with UTI and maternal-fetal complications; category B - Nursing care, with a focus on UTI, in the context of Primary Health Care (PHC). Final considerations: The complications for maternal and fetal health caused by UTI reflect the need for proper management of this pathology during the gestational period, highlighting the fundamental contribution of nursing professionals, whose work is crucial for conducting prenatal care.
