Therapeutic Adherence by Caregivers of Soropositive Children: Literature Review.

Abstract

With advances in AIDS treatment and adherence to treatment as a key to achieving significant outcomes for the quality of life of the infected person, studies on factors influencing adherence are relevant to the implementation of programs to raise rates clinical success of treatment, especially when it comes to children infected by vertical transmission. The objective of this study is to systematize a functional relationship with adherence factors, highlighting the role of the caregiver. A review of the literature in the Scielo and Medline databases identificated 15 articles that fulfilled the proposed criteria was made. The results suggest caregivers have a relevant and strong influence on the adherence of children role, highlighting the need to understand the rules of application and the importance of treatment. Drug-related characteristics, such as taste, time and dosage, also influence the level of adherence to treatment. Health workers are important sources of information and support for caregivers and children.
