Abstract

Introduction: Preventive mastectomy related to early breast cancer is a topic of great importance in the field of oncology, especially for women with a high genetic risk of developing breast cancer. Objective: To describe how mastectomy is related to the prevention of early breast cancer. Question: What does the scientific literature have about preventive mastectomy related to breast cancer at an early age? Methods: This is an integrative literature review, as it provides a synthesis of the results obtained through published research. For the construction of the research, data collection and analysis was carried out through the Virtual Health Library Portal and the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online database via PubMed, using the following Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): “Mastectomy Prophylactic”, “Breast Neoplasms'' and “Risk Factors'' combined with the Boolean operator AND. Results: Preventive mastectomy related to early breast neoplasms is a widely discussed topic in the field of oncology. This surgical intervention, which involves the preventive removal of the healthy breast in women with a high genetic risk of developing breast cancer, has generated debates and divergent opinions. Conclusion: Preventive mastectomy related to early breast neoplasms is a complex and individualized therapeutic option that seeks to reduce the risk of breast cancer development or recurrence in high-risk women.
